The Battle of Carrhae happened in 50 BC, when Licinius Crassus attempted to invade Persia without requesting permission from the Roman Senate. In the battle, a numerically superior Roman force found itself outmaneuvered by Parthian cavalry. With Crassus dead, Julius Caesar’s main friend and ally was gone. This intensified the rivalry between Caesar and Pompey, leading to Caesar's takeover as dictator the following year.
