Distillation is the process of vaporizing a liquid and condensing it as a method of purifying it. Vaporizing the substance leaves behind impurities that are too large to be picked up by gas molecules. Condensation allows the substance to regain its liquid form, this time without the impurities. The most commonly distilled substances are water and alcohol.
