Ecuador is a nation in South America. It borders Colombia to the north and Peru to the south, and is one of two South Americans nations to not border Brazil, although historically it did. Its capital is Quito, and its largest city is Guayaquil. Ecuador was a part of the Inca Empire before the arrival of the Spanish. Ecuador has had a tumultuous history since independence, with frequent coup d'états and dictatorships. In recent years, Ecuador has become increasingly wealth due to oil reserves. Spanish is the primary language, although Quechua still has many speakers. Roman Catholicism is by far the largest religion.
