This article is about the historical region. For the state proclaimed in 1988, see State of Palestine.
Palestine is a region in the Middle East located between the River Jordan and the Mediterranean. It is the location of many biblical events and has been controlled by various powers over its history. It is one of the oldest-civilized regions and contains many ruins. Today, the region is mostly taken up by the State of Israel, while some is controlled by the State of Palestine, although much of the latter is under military occupation by the former.
