Semitic languages are a group of languages belonging to the Afro-Asiatic language family. They are primarily spoken in the Middle East and North Africa. The most widely spoken of these is Arabic. Maltese and Hebrew are also Semitic languages. The oldest attested Semitic language is the Akkadian language.
