Washington is a U.S. state, named for George Washington, in the Pacific Northwest. Washington is on the West Coast, and borders Idaho to the east and Oregon to the south. The Cascade Range separates the temperate, rainy climate and population centers of western Washington from the dry grasslands of eastern Washington. The Cascades include Mount Rainier, the tallest mountain in Washington. Washington's capital is Olympia, and its largest city is Seattle, both located on Puget Sound. Other major cities include the Tri-Cities, Spokane in the east, and Vancouver near Portland, Oregon. Washington is considered one of the most liberal and environmentally conscious U.S. states.
